Bio Sketch

Ph.D. in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA (1992); Civil Engineer (1977) and M.Sc. in System Engineering (1985) from IME (Instituto Militar de Engenharia), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Brazilian Army Officer (Military Engineer) from AMAN (Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras).

Currently, professor at UNIRIO (Universidade do Rio de Janeiro), since 1997; Director of the School of Applied Informatics (Escola de Informática Aplicada), since 1999.

Formerly, professor and chair of the System Engineering Department at IME; IT coordinator of the Professional Development program at IBM - Brazil; IT consultant with Oráculo Consultoria de Sistemas and Embrapa - Solos.

Member of: the Research Group on Information Management from CNPq (Brazilian National Research Council); the ACM-SIGMOD; the IEEE Computer Society; the Database Committee at SBC (Brazilian Computing Society); International and Brazilian Function Point Users Group (IFPUG/BFPUG), and the Upsilon Pi Epsilon - the Honor Society in the Computing Sciences.
